You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the Gov UK Website
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay). Most employers ask for a fit note from your GP.
For more information on Fit Notes please see the NHS Choices Website
If you require a fit note;
You may not always need a GP appointment. Speak to one of our receptionists and they will be able to help you. If it is an ongoing problem the GP may not need to see you unless they need to review your problem. If it is a new problem you will probably need an appointment.
If in doubt, please call the surgery.
